Team Notes: Saturday morning brought drastically cooler temperatures to the Portland International Raceway area than the NTT INDYCAR SERIES teams experienced on Friday, with light moisture filling the air. However, Team Penske still occupied the top of the scoring pylon, going 1-2-3 in the morning practice session before the afternoon time trials. When it came time to qualify, Team Penske again took the top three positions for the first time since the 2019 race at Iowa Speedway. It is also the second, front-row lockout for Team Penske in 2022. As in the first one on the streets of St. Petersburg, Scott McLaughlin scored the Portland pole position to retake the career Team Penske pole position lead with 62. The New Zealander has one more than Will Power who qualified third but will move up to the second position after second-place qualifier Josef Newgarden takes a six-position grid penalty before the start of the race. The No. 2 team was forced to change engines to their fifth Chevrolet power plant of the year prior to this weekend, triggering the grid penalty.
