ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 8, 2010) - Before traveling to the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series season opener in Sao Paulo, Brazil this weekend, Ryan Briscoe took some time on Monday to visit the site of his win in last season's opening race on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Briscoe was in town to promote the 2010 Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, to be held March 26-28 on the beautiful and challenging downtown street circuit. In addition to a quick tour of the race circuit hosted by GP of St. Pete officials, Briscoe talked with the local media about the event and also visited MacDill Air Force Base.
At the base, Briscoe met with Air Force personnel, including the base commander, Colonel Lawrence Martin Jr., who gave the Australian racer a tour of a KC-135 aerial refueling tanker. Briscoe also took his spot behind the controls of the air craft and compared notes with several of the plane's pilots.
"It was really cool to get the opportunity to tour the KC-135 and to meet and talk to the guys at MacDill Air Force Base and let them know how much we appreciate all they do," said Briscoe. "We plan to host a few of the pilots with Team Penske on race weekend. I really enjoy coming to St. Petersburg. It's a great city and a beautiful area and we'll be trying our best to repeat as race champions when we come back here in a few weeks."
