Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Postoned Until Monday

March 28, 2010

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 28, 2010) - Persistant rain showers on Sunday forced the postponement of the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg until Monday morning.

Rain began falling at the 1.8-mile street circuit in downtown St. Pete about 90 minutes before the scheduled start of Sunday's race. Thunder and lightning accompanied the showers that increased in intensity throughout the afternoon.

At about 4:20 p.m. ET, IZOD IndyCar Series officials made the decision to postpone the race until Monday as there were several inches of standing water at various points on the track.

Verizon Team Penske's Will Power will lead the field to the green flag at 10 a.m. ET on Monday after securing his third IZOD IndyCar Series pole position on Saturday. Helio Castroneves will start fifth for Team Penske while Ryan Briscoe will take the green flag from the 19th position.

The race will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
