Team Penske Continues to Post Fast Practice Times

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 14, 2013) – Team Penske completed its busiest day yet at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Tuesday with solid showings by all three drivers during the fourth day of practice for the 97th Indianapolis 500.
Three-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves led the way with a fast lap of 223.556 mph in the No. 3 Shell V-Power Pennzoil Ultra Dallara/Chevrolet, with the fourth-fastest lap of the day.
“It was another good day today for the Shell V-Power Pennzoil Ultra Chevrolet. We feel we’ve identified the places where we can improve and so now we have to continue working,” said Castroneves, who posted the fastest Team Penske speed for the second consecutive day. “Finishing near the top yesterday and today shows we hopefully have the consistency that it takes to win the race in the end.”
Experiencing his first Indy 500, AJ Allmendinger was clocked at 222.005 mph – 10th-best overall – in the No. 2 IZOD Team Penske Dallara/Chevrolet.
“Today was the first day it has been warm outside, which was something I had not experienced yet,” said Allmendinger, who has posted a top-10 time in each practice session to date. “The track changed throughout the day, getting slicker than it’s been on the cooler days but we were able to make adjustments to the IZOD Team Penske Chevrolet that helped us put down some pretty good laps. I was able to learn a lot with a lot of cars on the track today, which is obviously critical for me as we get close to the race. Productive day in all, but I still have a lot to learn.”
Will Power was clocked at 221.654 mph in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Dallara/Chevrolet, 14th-fastest of the six-hour session.
"We put in another steady day of work on the Verizon Chevrolet,” said Power, who is in pursuit of his first Indianapolis 500 win. “We feel as though we are making progress on our set-up. It was a good day at the office and definitely a beautiful day here at Indy. Hopefully we get more of the same tomorrow."
All three Team Penske drivers focused primarily on race setups Tuesday, and two hit their high totals for laps during a single session. Allmendinger completed 76 laps while Castroneves totaled 71. Power, who recorded 56 laps Monday, turned 52 on Tuesday.
Castroneves, Power and Allmendinger will attempt to help Team Penske extend its record of 15 Indy 500 wins. Practice resumes Wednesday at noon ET.
On Saturday, pole qualifying will begin at 11 a.m. ET. It will be televised live by NBC Sports Network, which also will air a special preview on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
ABC’s Indy 500 race broadcast is set to begin at noon on Sunday, May 26.
