Recap: Simon Pagenaud won the pole position Friday for Saturday's Chevrolet Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans – the first of two Verizon IndyCar Series races this weekend – in the No. 22 Hewlett Packard Enterprise Team Penske Chevrolet with a lap of 1 minute, 14.9166 seconds (112.926 mph) in the final round of the Firestone Fast Six qualifying at the Raceway at Belle Isle. This is his third pole of the season, winning earlier in the season at the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama and the Angie's List Grand Prix of Indianapolis to go along with his three race wins this year. It's also his fifth career Verizon IndyCar Series pole. Helio Castroneves set a new event record with his qualifying effort earlier in the session. Team Penske has won six of seven Verizon P1 Pole Awards this season and 19 of the last 23 dating back to last season. Team Penske drivers – Pagenaud, Castroneves and Juan Pablo Montoya – qualified 1-2-3 for weekend’s first of two races. Qualifying for Sunday's race will take place at 10:45 a.m. that morning.
