Recap: Three of the four Team Penske cars qualified in the top 10 for the Firestone 600 set for Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway. Helio Castroneves was the quickest of the quartet with a total two-lap time of 48.3343 seconds which averages out to a speed of 216.740 mph on the 1.455-mile tri-oval. Verizon IndyCar Series championship points leader Simon Pagenaud will start the race in the sixth position after posting a qualifying time of 48.3516 seconds (216.663 mph). Will Power clocked in at seventh with a total time of 48.3551 seconds (216.647 mph). Juan Pablo Montoya will start from the 17th position on Saturday. He logged a time of 48.6624 seconds (215.279 mph). The difference from first to last in the qualifying session was just .7471 of a second of the cars that took that took the track. Team Penske drivers are looking for the team's ninth win at Texas in its 19th IndyCar race at the track.
There were no incidents involving the No. 2, No. 3, No. 12 or the No. 22 Dallara/Chevrolets. Final practice is set for 6:45 p.m. CT (7:45 p.m. ET) on Friday. The Firestone 600 is scheduled to take the green flag at 7:50 p.m. CT (8:50 ET) on Saturday.
