Recap: Simon Pagenaud captured the Verizon P1 Pole Award in Saturday's qualifying for the Iowa Corn 300 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa. In doing so, he claimed the 500th pole win for Team Penske in its 50th year of competition. In the two-lap session, Pagenaud wheeled his No. 22 Menards Team Penske Chevrolet around the .894-mile oval in 34.6334 seconds for an average speed of 185.855 mph. It's his fifth pole win of the season and the seventh of his Verizon IndyCar Series career. It's also his second on an oval track having won in 2015 at Fontana, California. Additionally, it's the ninth of the season for Team Penske and 243rd all-time in IndyCar competition.

Helio Castroneves qualified third, narrowly missing his second consecutive pole win at Iowa Speedway after posting the fastest lap a season ago. Will Power, winner of the last two Verizon IndyCar Series events, will start from the eighth position and Juan Pablo Montoya will start 11th in Sunday's race.

Notes:  There were no incidents involving the No. 2, No. 3, No. 12 or the No. 22 Dallara/Chevrolets. Final practice is set for 6:15 p.m. CT and will be streamed at IndyCar.com.
