WINNING POLE NOTES

• · Helio Castroneves won the pole for Saturday's Desert Diamond West Valley Grand Prix of Phoenix in Friday evening's Verizon IndyCar Series qualifying at Phoenix International Raceway.
• · This is Castroneves' second Verizon P1 Pole Award of the 2017 season with the first coming at Long Beach.
• · The pole is the 49th of his INDYCAR career (7 CART/42 IRL/IC), which puts him in a tie for third all-time in series history with Bobby Unser.
• · It was Castroneves' second consecutive Phoenix pole win and third overall at the track.
• · His single-lap time of 18.8701 seconds (194.905 mph) on the 1.022-mile oval set a new track record and eclipsed his own record of 19.0997 seconds from a season ago.
• · It is Castroneves' 29th career pole win on an oval track.
• · This is the 17th pole for Team Penske at Phoenix in open-wheel competition.
• · Team Penske has won all four Verizon P1 Pole Awards this season and 15 of the last 20 dating back to the beginning of last season.
• · This is the 249th Verizon IndyCar Series pole win in the history of Team Penske and the 517th pole for the organization overall.
