Notes:

Mother Nature made her presence felt today at Gateway Motorsports Park as the Verizon IndyCar Series schedule was interrupted on several occasions as the teams tried to prepare for the Saturday night show. In the end, the teams were able to take in two-and-a-half hours of practice time, but the qualifying session was canceled. The starting grid has been set by the INDYCAR rulebook using driver points. Josef Newgarden will start third in the No. 1 Verizon Dallara/Chevrolet. Will Power in the No. 12 Verizon Dallara/Chevrolet and Simon Pagenaud in the No. 22 Menards Dallara/Chevrolet will start just behind in the fourth and sixth positions, respectively. Newgarden made slight contact with the outside wall while coming off of Turn 4 in the final practice session that cut his time short. The damage to his car was minimal but the team did change the rear toe link. There is a chance of rain overnight that could play a role in the handling of the cars at the start of tomorrow's race until more rubber can be laid into the track surface.

Coverage: The night race at Gateway Motorsports Park will air on Saturday, August 25 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network.
