Hornish Jr. Qualifies 12th for Darlington Nationwide Race

DARLINGTON, S.C. (May 9, 2008) – Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 12 Penske Truck Rental Dodge Charger in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, qualified in the 12th position for tonight’s Diamond Hill Plywood 200 at Darlington Raceway.
This evening’s race will mark the first start for Hornish Jr. at the famed “Lady in Black.” During qualifying this afternoon, he posted a fast lap time of 28.269 seconds at a speed of 173.957 miles per hour placing him in the 12th starting position.
“Darlington Raceway is like no other track that I’ve been to,” said Hornish Jr. “I’ve tested at Rockingham and that’s about the closest thing I can compare to Darlington. The way the car feels going through the corner is similar at both tracks. I’m looking forward to tonight’s race and to getting some experience here. It’s a pretty interesting place, that’s for sure.”
The Diamond Hill Plywood 200 will air live on ESPN2 tonight beginning at 7:00 p.m. EDT. The race will also be broadcast live on MRN at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
