Hornish Jr. to Start 13th in Charlotte Nationwide Race

May 24, 2008

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 24, 2008) – Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 12 Penske Truck Rental Dodge Charger in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, qualified in the 13th position for tonight’s Carquest Auto Parts 300 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

After a strong showing in the Sprint All-Star Race in the Cup Series last weekend in Charlotte, Hornish is prepared to tackle the “Beast of the Southeast” for 200 laps under the lights tonight.

The 42nd competitor to take the track in qualifying, and one of 16 drivers required to qualify on time, Hornish posted a fast lap time of 30.512 seconds at a speed of 176.980 miles per hour. The effort secured the Penske Truck Rental Dodge the 13th starting position.

“I’m really excited for tonight’s Nationwide Series race,” said Hornish. “We’ve had a good month of May here at Lowe’s Motor Speedway between testing and the All-Star Race. The Penske Truck Renal team has been consistent throughout the season, and I feel that tonight we have a car capable of a top-10 finish.”

The Carquest Auto Parts 300 will air live on ESPN2 tonight beginning at 7 p.m. EDT. The race will also be broadcast live on PRN at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
