September 17, 2008

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (September 17, 2008) – Penske Racing today announced the signing of 22-year old Justin Allgaier to drive in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.  Allgaier, currently ranked fifth in the 2008 ARCA Re/Max driver points standings, will drive a limited Nationwide Series schedule in 2008 and 2009 for Penske Racing, as he continues to develop as a driver.

“We’ve had our eye on Justin for some time, and Penske Racing is fortunate to be in a position to bring him on board,” said Tim Cindric, president of Penske Racing.  “Roger always enjoys the opportunity to grow people within our system and we are looking forward to helping him achieve his career goals.”

Allgaier, of Riverton, Ill., has been racing competitively for a majority of his life.  His racing experiences began when he was very young, racking up five national quarter midget championships and more than 100 feature wins.  At 14, Allgaier made history as the youngest driver in history to advance to the main event at the famed “Chili Bowl” midget event.

Since then, Allgaier has spent six years in the challenging ARCA stock car series, posting solid finishes on many types of tracks.  Allgaier has also run eight NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races (2005, 2006, 2008), represented the U.S.A. at the South Pacific Saloon Car Championship in New Zealand where he posted two top-five finishes, and spends time on off-weekends running his dirt late-model machine and midgets throughout the Midwest

“What a great opportunity to join Penske Racing and to show what we are capable of together in the Nationwide Series,” said Allgaier, who has posted three wins, one pole position, 11 top-five and 13 top-ten finishes in 18 races to date in the ARCA/ReMax Series.  “I look forward to my first opportunity to race in the Nationwide car later this season, and into 2009.”
