Justin Allgaier Starts 42nd in Friday’s Event in Phoenix

April 17, 2009

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (April 17, 2009) – Justin Allgaier, driver of the No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge Charger for Penske Racing, will start Friday’s 200-mile event at the one-mile Arizona track in the 42nd spot.

Allgaier went out 29th to make his qualifying attempt.  Entering turn 3, he lost control of his machine making contact with the outside retaining wall.  The damage to his car was severe enough the team was forced to pull out the backup car.

“I hate it for all the guys on the Verizon Wireless Dodge team,” commented driver Justin Allgaier.  “We had a really good racecar for tonight’s race.  We made a number of changes during practice and felt like we had a car that would really compete tonight.  I just got really loose in the middle of turns 3 and 4.  I did all I could to try and save it, but the track is just hot and slick and had no grip.  The great thing is the guys at Penske Racing build great cars and I know our backup car is just as strong as our primary.  I just have to be patient getting back up through the field.”

The Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 be seen live on Friday, April 17 on ESPN 2 with coverage beginning at 9 p.m. ET. The event can also be heard live on MRN Radio as well as Sirius Satellite Radio, channel 128.
