Allgaier To Start 28th in Talladega Nationwide Race

April 24, 2009

TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 24, 2009) – Justin Allgaier, driver of the No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge Charger for Penske Racing, will start Saturday's 312-mile event at the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway in the 28th spot.

The No.12 team went out 19th to make their qualifying attempt on Friday morning.  Allgaier, pilot of the Verizon Wireless Dodge, ran a time of 52.401 seconds with a speed of 182.745 miles per hour. His qualifying run put him on the outside of the 14th row for the start of tomorrow’s event. This is Allgaier’s first Nationwide Series start at NASCAR’s largest speedway.

“The car felt great,” commented Allgaier after his qualifying run.  “We know the Verizon Wireless Dodge is capable of running up front.  Qualifying at places like Daytona and Talladega really don’t matter; you can go from 43rd to first in one lap.  We just need to be patient all day and make a couple of friends we can draft with and help get our Dodge to the front at the end.  There are so many variables you can’t control at Talladega, but [crew chief] Chad Walter and all the guys on the No.12 Verizon Wireless Dodge did a great job preparing a car that is capable of winning the race. I am looking forward to the race and bringing home another strong finish.”

The Aaron’s 312 be seen live on Saturday, April 25 on ABC-TV with coverage beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET. The event can also be heard live on MRN Radio as well as Sirius Satellite Radio, channel 128.
