Allgaier Will Start 27th For The Zippo 200 at The Glen

August 8, 2009

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (August 8, 2009) – Justin Allgaier, driver of the No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge Charger for Penske Racing, will start today’s 82-lap event at the 2.45-mile Watkins Glen International road course from the 27th spot.

The team went out in the fifth group to make their qualifying attempt on Saturday morning.  The 23-year old Illinois native ran a time of 74.625 seconds which was good enough to put him on the inside of the 14th row for start of today’s race.  This is the rookie’s first road course start in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

“It was a solid lap for us,” commented Allgaier after his qualifying run.  “We did not make a mock qualifying run yesterday during practice, so we were going out blind.  [Crew chief] Chad [Walter] told me to just run a smooth lap and we would be fine.  If we keep all four tires on the pavement all day long I am confident we will have a solid day.  We just need to be patient and make good decisions all day long.  I am excited about the race and bringing the Verizon Wireless Dodge team another strong result.”

The Zippo 200 can be seen live this afternoon on ESPN2 with coverage beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET. The event can also be heard live on MRN Radio as well as Sirius Satellite Radio, channel 128.
