No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger News and Notes
• The No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger in 2011... After two events, Brad Keselowski and the reigning champion No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger team sit 38th in the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) owner point standings.
• This Week’s Challenger… The Penske Racing Discount Tire Dodge Challenger team will use chassis PRS-207 during Saturday’s Sam’s Town 300 at the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) oval. Keselowski drove this chassis to a second-place finish at Richmond International Raceway (RIR) in September of 2010.
• To Finish First, You Must First Finish... Dating back to the March 2008 race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Keselowski has been running at the end in 102 of the last 104 NNS races.
• New Car Smell… Penske Racing and the No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge team proved to be the class of the field in the four NNS races where the new Dodge Challenger was used in 2010. With two wins, four top-five finishes and one pole it was clear that the new car suited Keselowski and the team. With full implementation of the Challenger for 2011, Keselowski has plenty of confidence that he can improve upon the banner year he enjoyed last season.
• Keselowski Speedway Stats… In 95 speedway starts in the Nationwide Series, Keselowski has accumulated seven wins, 40 top-five finishes, 54 top-10 results and five pole awards. In addition, he has led the field for 1,104 laps at tracks over one-mile in length that do not require the use of a restrictor plate.
• See Brad at Discount Tire… Keselowski will make an appearance at the Discount Tire store located at 6565 East Lake Mead Boulevard in Las Vegas, Nev., on Wednesday, March 2 at 4:00 pm PT.
Brad Keselowski on racing this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
“Things happen in a hurry at Las Vegas. Wrecks happen fast because you can quickly run up on another competitor. You have to make decisions on the fly because these Nationwide cars run on momentum as much as anything, due to the tapered carburetor spacer. You can’t waste time getting around someone. I’ve worked hard to improve my driving at the mile-and-a-half tracks, so I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger this weekend.”
Crew chief Todd Gordon on the difficult start to the 2011 season
“This season definitely has not started like we had hoped it would. The good news for us is that we don’t need to change what we are doing. The most important thing for this No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge team is to continue to put good cars on the track and we will get this team rolling to the finishes that we deserve. We’ve had two solid top-five runs going in both races to start the season, but circumstances out of our control led us to poor finishes. If you are in this sport long enough you will go through periods where you just have a run of bad luck. We are working hard to end ours this weekend in Las Vegas.”
