May 11, 2012

Darlington, S.C. (May 11, 2012) - Sam Hornish, Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 12 Alliance Parts Dodge Challenger, qualified eighth for Friday evening’s VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 at Darlington Raceway.

Hornish turned a lap of 28.698 seconds around the uniquely shaped 1.366 mile track at an average speed of 171.357 miles per hour. Penske Racing teammate, Brad Keselowski qualified 13th in the No. 22 Snap-on Dodge.

“Our Alliance Truck Parts Dodge was just a little too free overall and I wasn’t able to get back to the throttle as quickly as I would’ve liked,” said Hornish. “The Penske Dodge was really good in race trim during practice this morning and we know what we have to do to have a strong car in tonight’s race.”

The VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 on Friday, May 11. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 90.
