Hornish to Start on Front Row at Iowa

May 20, 2012

Newton, Iowa (May 19, 2012) – Sam Hornish, Jr. driver of the Penske Racing No. 12 Detroit Genuine Parts Dodge Challenger in the NASCAR Nationwide Series scores his first front row start of the season as he will start second at Iowa Speedway in tomorrow’s race.

Hornish will start the Pioneer Hi-Bred 250 from the second position on the grid after posting a speed of 133.294 mph as he lapped the fast seven-eighths mile track in 23.632 seconds.

“The run was good in our Detroit Genuine Parts Dodge,” said Hornish. “We’ve had a good start to the season. To be fourth in the points with some of the holes that we’ve dug ourselves so far this year, we feel pretty good about it. We’re not even one-third of the way through the season. We feel like we can hopefully keep moving forward a little bit at a time and catch up with the lead guys and give them a run for the money. We gained points on them the last couple of weekends, but we’re only getting one of two at a time. Not nearly enough. I’m just looking forward to getting out there and get running tomorrow. Our car was really good in practice. We set down the fastest time.”

Penske Racing teammate, Parker Kligerman will start 10th in the No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge.

The Pioneer Hi-Bred 250 coverage will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET on ESPN on Sunday, May 20. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 90.
