August 11, 2012
WATKINS GLEN, NY (August 11, 2012) – Sam Hornish, Jr. and the No. 12 PPG Automotive Refinish Dodge Challenger team earned their first-ever NASCAR pole and will lead the field to the green flag in Saturday afternoon’s The Zippo 200 at The Glen.
Hornish lapped the historic 2.4 mile road course in 72.027 seconds at an average speed of 122.454 miles per hour, in the Saturday morning qualifying session. Penske Racing teammate, Brad Keselowski qualified fourth in the No. 22 SKF/Discount Tire Dodge Challenger.
“We were really happy with our PPG Automotive Refinish Dodge today during our qualifying run,” said Hornish. “We feel like we have a pretty good handle the car – though I did leave a little time in Turn 1. All in all we are very pleased to be starting up front today and all credit to the whole Penske Racing organization. Now we just need to be smart in the race and remember we are after points as the goal is the championship.”
The Zippo 200 at The Glen will air live on ABC at 2:00 p.m. ET Saturday afternoon. Race coverage will also be broadcast on the Performance Racing Network and SiriusXM Satellite Radio Channel 90.
