August 24, 2012

BRISTOL, Tenn. - (August 23, 2012) – Sam Hornish, Jr. and the No. 12 Detroit Genuine Parts Dodge Challenger team qualified ninth for Saturday evening’s Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. The result marks Hornish’s best-ever starting position at the venue.

Hornish lapped the one-half mile high-banked oval in 15.915 seconds at an average speed of 120.566 miles per hour, in the Friday afternoon qualifying session. Penske Racing teammate, Brad Keselowski qualified eight in the No. 22 Dodge Challenger.

“We probably had a little more in our Detroit Genuine Parts Dodge, said Hornish, I could have drove it in a bit harder on my first lap and we were just a bit tight throughout our run. We have been racing very well lately and as long as I keep my nose clean – I know the Penske Racing pit crew will take care of me and we should be well positioned to have another strong run.”

The Food City 250 will air live on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET Friday evening. Race coverage will also be broadcast on the Performance Racing Network and SiriusXM Satellite Radio Channel 90.
