Hornish to Start on Front Row at Daytona

February 22, 2013

DAYTONA, Fla. (February 22, 2013) – Sam Hornish, Jr. and the No. 12 Alliance Truck Parts Ford Mustang team qualified in the second position for Saturday’s DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway.

Hornish guided his Penske Ford around the 2.5-mile superspeedway in 50.885 seconds at 176.869 miles per hour during the Thursday afternoon qualifying session. Penske Racing teammate, Brad Keselowski will start 11th in the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang.

“Everything went almost as well as expected or planned,” said Hornish. “The car has been great and, the guys at Penske Racing have done an exceptionally good job over the offseason of building us all new race cars. As soon as we put it on the chassis Dyno for the first time and took it to the wind tunnel we knew we had a better piece than what we raced with last year. We are genuinely excited about getting this year going with a lot of new changes on the Alliance Truck Parts team. New crew chief, car chief, spotter, and our new Ford Mustang. All in all, I am real happy about our opportunities this year. The big thing for me is we have had a few months to think about it and put ourselves in a position to win and to make ourselves better. Now it is time to make it happen.”

The DRIVE4COPD 300 will air live at 1:00 p.m. ET on ESPN on Saturday afternoon. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on the Performance Racing Network and SiriusXM Satellite Radio Channel 90.
