Hornish Scores Second Career Pole at Chicagoland

July 21, 2013

JOLIET, Ill. (July 21, 2013) – Sam Hornish Jr. and the No. 12 Alliance Truck Parts Ford Mustang team will start from the pole position in this afternoon’s STP 300 at Chicagoland Speedway. The effort resulted in Hornish earning his second career NASCAR Nationwide Series pole

Hornish lapped the 1.5 mile speedway in 30.279 seconds at an average speed of 178.341 miles per hour during the morning’s qualifying session. Penske Racing teammate, Joey Logano will start seventh in the Hertz Ford Mustang.

“I have to thank the Alliance Truck Parts crew and everyone at Penske Racing,” said Hornish. “Our first lap felt pretty decent, but I felt like I needed to dig a bit deeper and we found a little more speed on that second lap. I always like to start up front, and we have a fast Ford Mustang. This is the perfect way to start the day here at Chicagoland”

The STP 300 will air live today at 3:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM Satellite Radio Channel 90.
