Allmendinger Will Start on the Front Row at Mid-Ohio

August 17, 2013

LEXINGTON, OH (August 17, 2013) – AJ Allmendinger and the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang team will start from the front row in the second position for Saturday’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200. This will mark Allmendinger’s second start in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) for the 2013 season and his second start from the front row. He previously sat on the pole in Road America back in June where he went on to win the race.

Allmendinger lapped the 2.25 mile road course in 84.461 seconds at a speed of 96.243 miles per hour to set a new NASCAR Nationwide Series track record. Penske Racing teammate, Sam Hornish Jr will start in the eighth position.

“The Discount Tire Ford Mustang is really good,” said Allmendinger. “It will take a lot of patience to win here today. I didn’t get a chance to warm up the tires the way I wanted to during the first lap. The second lap the car was pretty good but I over slowed the car in the carousel (turn) because I didn’t want to get in there too deep and mess the lap up. The car has been solid since we unloaded on Thursday. I feel like we have a good platform but we need to save the rear tires. The key to win this thing will be to minimize your mistakes on the track. Hopefully our strategy will play out the right way, the yellows will fall when we need them to and we can bring home another win for this Discount Tire team.”

The Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 will air today at 2:00pm ET on ESPN. The race will also be broadcast on MRN and SiriusXM.
