THE RACE REVIEW

· Joey Logano earned his first pole of the 2013 season and his 23rd-career NASCAR Nationwide Series pole for Saturday afternoon’s event.  It was also Logano’s third-career pole at Dover International Speedway.

· At the drop of the green, Logano jumped to the lead and paced the field for the first 18 laps before being passed by the No. 54.  Logano complained that his No. 22 Hertz Ford was extremely loose, something they would fix on the first round of pit stops.

· Logano brought the No. 22 Mustang into the pits for the first time on lap 37.  Wholesale changes and four tires got Logano out in 18th, but the 23-year-old made little work driving back towards the front of the pack. In 40 laps, Logano was back in second and took the lead once again on lap 87.

· With a lack of caution flags, Logano pitted for the final time under green on lap 116, giving up the lead.  He came back out in third and set his sights back on the lead.

· On lap 142, Logano took the lead once again and never gave it up, setting a torrid pace that eventually resulted in him putting everyone up to fourth-place a lap down.

· Logano led three different times for a race-high 106 laps.

· Taking the checkers, Logano earned his 21st-career NASCAR Nationwide Series win and third of the season.  Even more impressive, Logano earned his fourth-straight Nationwide Series win at Dover International Speedway.  Logano swept both races in 2012 and both races this season at the one-mile concrete oval.

· The win was the 11th of the year for the No. 22 Penske Racing Mustang.

· With the win, the No. 22 Penske Racing machine extended its points lead in the Nationwide Series Owner’s Championship.  The team now leads the No. 54 of Joe Gibbs Racing by 34 points with just five races remaining.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING

JOEY LOGANO

WITH THE LACK OF CAUTION FLAGS, THE RACE WENT FAST. HOW DID YOU MAKE YOUR CAR BETTER?

“This Hertz Ford was really good when we unloaded and then throughout practice the track changed on us a little bit and last night we made some good changes on the race car.  Jeremy (Bullins) and all the guys and girls on the team did a good job tuning the thing up for me.  We started the race too loose and they went for it.  These Nationwide races are short.  You’ve got to make big swings real early and I feel like Jeremy and I have worked enough together now that when I say loose and how loose he kind of knows how much it is and he made some big swings on this thing and got it pretty close.  Then we needed one more stop to just kind of fine-tune it.  After that second green-flag stop it was dialed in pretty good.  I was just able to run my race and take care of the tires, make sure I was doing the right things in the car, and get another victory”

TALK ABOUT FOUR-STRAIGHT WINS AT DOVER.

“It’s just really cool to get four in a row here at Dover.  That’s pretty awesome.  It’s been my favorite race track ever since I started here, yes, even when I barrel-rolled down the back straightaway it’s still my favorite place, and I think we showed it today.”
