THE RACE REVIEW

Brad Keselowski and the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang started the Alert Today Florida 300 from the 14thposition based on the qualifying session held earlier in the day. The first half of the race was typical superspeedway fare with Keselowski running as high as sixth and as low as 19th. In the later stages of the race, the No. 22 Discount Tire pit crew gained their driver key spots on its final pit stop. This set-up an exciting finish that saw Keselowski leading at the line as the white flag flew. At the same time, a final-lap crash behind the lead pack was not severe enough to warrant a yellow, so action continued with Keselowski pacing the field down the backstretch while racing to the checkered flag. However, going into turn three, Keselowski broke free of the pack and subsequently fell prey to a two-car tandem that passed him on the final corner. Keselowski went on to take the checkered flag in fifth place.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING

“I definitely had too big of a lead there at the end. There’s only so much you can block and the run that the 16 (Reed) had was just more than I could block without wrecking everybody, so that’s just part of it I guess. Something happened to 98 (Almirola) car exiting turn two and it just pulled a huge gap on the field and I couldn’t react fast enough to that to try to stay with the field. I drove away from it and it kind of rubber banded back on us. The 16 and the 60 (Buescher) got a great run with some really smart drafting and flung by us. That was just the way the cards were dealt. We’ve come to Daytona the last four or five years and led a bunch of laps and been leading towards the end and not been able to finish it out. Today is the same I guess.”
