THE RACE RECAP

Brad Keselowski and the No. 22 America’s Tire Ford Mustang started the Drive4Clots.com 300 from the fourth position Saturday afternoon at Auto Club Speedway. Keselowski went immediately work, picking up two spots on the opening lap of the race and sliding into the second position. He held second until the first pit stop when he slid through the pit box while entering for service.  Despite briefly falling back to eighth place, Keselowski raced his way back in the top-five just a few laps later, a position he would run most of the day. The No. 22 machine was tight all afternoon and crew chief Greg Erwin adjusted on the chassis throughout the race. The race ended with a 29-lap green flag run which saw Keselowski drive from 12th to third in eight laps, but then fall back in the closing laps as the tires wore. He held on to finish eighth on the day. The top-10 finish allows the No. 22 America’s Tire Ford team to hold the top spot in NASCAR XFINITY Series Owners’ points, as they lead the No. 88 of JR Motorsports by eight points.

“We had good short run speed today, but we weren’t as good on the long runs. The America’s Tire Ford team did a great job of steadily improving our Mustang and they gave me good service in the pits. I thought we might have a shot at a top-three there towards the end of the race, but we just fell off the pace too much over the last 15 laps or so.”
