THE RACE RECAP

Ryan Blaney and the No. 22 Hertz Ford Mustang finished the Buckle Up 200 in the 34th position after an early incident Saturday afternoon at Dover International Speedway.  Blaney started the 200-lap event from the ninth position following qualifying in the morning.  Early on, Blaney fought an ill-handling car.  Crew chief Greg Erwin had Blaney come down pit road on several occasions to try and fix the Hertz ride.  When the green flag flew on another restart on lap 61, Blaney and the No. 2 of Brian Scott were racing for seventh position when the two cars collided. Blaney’s Ford hit the outside wall as a result of the contact, suffered damage and needed to be repaired in the garage. Blaney returned to the race 34 laps down, but had to return to the garage once again to fix a broken ball joint. Blaney would spend 35 more laps in the garage before returning to the race. The checkered flag flew and Blaney would finish in the 34th position, 69 laps down. Despite the frustrating finish, the No. 22 team continues to lead the XFINITY Series Owners’ point standings by 28 markers. 

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING

“We didn’t qualify where we wanted and were pretty loose there that first run and thought we got it decent on the pit stop. I thought we would be good, but we fired off kind of tight which is where I thought we needed to be to be good late in runs. The 18 slipped a little bit off of four and the 2 got inside of us and must have got loose or something. Unfortunately we got in the fence there. It was unfortunate because I would have liked to see where it went. It was only lap 50 or so and I wish we could have raced more than that. They put it back together and we got what we got. It has been a rough last couple weeks for us. Hopefully we can get it turned around eventually.”
