Qualifying determines race results for Scott Pye at Winton SuperSprint

May 16, 2015

Winton, Victoria, 16.05.15: Scott Pye continued to chip away at the opening two races in the Winton SuperSprint at the Victorian country track. The PPG / Daikin Falcon FG X qualified 15th for the first race in a disrupted session due to oil from a previous event.

As has been the case in many of the 60km sprints this year, little or no passing opportunities arise particularly on the short and twisty 3km Winton layout.
Pye held station and brought the DJR Team Penske Ford home in P15 for some valuable championship points.

Qualifying further back for Race 2, Pye was lucky to avoid a first lap accident which all but eliminated three of the Walkinshaw Commodores. He was also pushed wide by Bright on the exit of Turn 2, but managed to gather it up and settle into P19. In a similar role out to the first race, Pye held station finishing in P18.

Sunday's 200kmm race will revert to the combination of Dunlop hard and soft tyre compounds plus introduce the fuel stops.

The DJR Team Penske crew will again work tonight on the data from today's racing to fine tune the PPG / Daikin Ford Falcon for the final race.

"Solid day today. Missed the window slightly on second qualifying and with passing near impossible I was pleased to come through for P18 in second race. I felt that we did improve the handling of the PPG Daikin Falcon from Race 1.

"From 15th on the grid in Race 1, there was little chance of making gains. I had more speed than that but was in the same position as everyone else, unable to pass. Tomorrow's race will mix the strategies so we are aiming to try and improve in a lot of areas."
