Tough Day On Track For DJR Team Penske

May 2, 2015

Perth, Western Australia, 02.05.15: Scott Pye battled hard in the opening two races of the Perth SuperSprint today but results were hard to come by for the DJR Team Penske driver. The MTU Ford Falcon FG X qualified in P20 and P19 for the two 25 lap races, making the chance of climbing up the field very difficult in the short race formats.

Pye dropped two spots in the opening lap of Race 1 and spent the bulk of the race chasing Andre Heimgartner’s FG X. He would cross the line in P22 after the 25 lap journey.

Race 2 and Scott was up to P18 by lap 8, but moves by Wood and Walsh late in the race pushed the MTU Ford back to P21 at the finish.

The DJR Team Penske crew made a number of changes between the races and Pye felt the car was better in Race 2, but acknowledged that a poor starting position made it tough to move up the field.

The UBET Perth SuperSprint concludes on Sunday with the 200km race, with the DJR Team Penske crew looking to make further cages to the car overnight.

“At the moment we do not seen to be getting the benefit of the new tyre. It feels little different to a used tyre which obviously effects our Qualifying performance. The boys managed the tyres well today which hopefully puts us in a good position for Sunday’s 200km race.

“Overall it was a disappointing day. The changes we are making do not seem to be really making the car quicker, and it is the same characteristics each time. So we have to put our heads together tonight and tune it up. Today showed we have to get a better handle on a qualifying and race set up.”
