Race 1 Recap: The first race of the Sydney SuperSprint has delivered another Top 10 finish for Fabian Coulthard but disappointment for Scott Pye. The No 17 MAN Ford qualified in a very strong fourth position but had to head for the Pits on Lap 8 with a Power Steering problem. The crew worked on the car but it was retired.
Fabian Coulthard ran a long first stint to ensure he had fresh tyres towards the end. Rejoining in position twenty, Coulthard forged the MAN Truck & Bus Ford up the field passing ten cars in the closing stages to grab tenth spot.
The strategy worked well for Coulthard as he was stuck in a long train of cars in the early stages but held station to take the benefits at the end.
The Sydney SuperSprint concludes tomorrow with the 200km final.
Fabian Coulthard Quote: "We are doing a bit of pioneering with the car this weekend to really try and get things out of the car that Scott and I after. Of course that can come with a negative and not qualifying so well hurt us. We raced forward and passed quite a few cars at the end, but we are trying to make the car better every time we go out. We used a set up similar to Scott's and he was very happy with his car probably more than I was, so we will look at the data hard tonight to get a direction."
Scott Pye Quote: "We had a really fast car today but ran into trouble when a power steering pulley came adrift. We had a great battle with Chaz early on and I felt the car was as fast as any of the guys I was racing. I was taking care of the tyres and the car was very fast. I really can't take a trick at the moment, but hopefully the luck will swing the other way soon!"
