Biography

One of the brightest stars in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES (NICS), Josef Newgarden continues to shine both on and off the track as he climbs higher among the sport's all-time greats heading into his 13th season competing in America's top open-wheel series in 2024. A consistent championship contender since joining Team Penske prior to the 2017 season, Newgarden scored the biggest win of his career in 2023 as the two-time series champion in 2017 and 2019 captured the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500.

After producing four wins and another top-five championship finish behind the wheel of the No. 2 Hitachi/PPG/Shell Powering Progress/Snap-on Dallara/Chevrolet in 2023, Newgarden will strive to secure his third NICS title in 2024. Newgarden will also compete in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship endurance events this season for the No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport team and he helped the squad earn the overall victory in the Rolex 24-hour race at Daytona to open the 2024 season.

The 2023 NICS season was one in which Newgarden added to his victory tally as the winningest American driver currently competing in INDYCAR. He scored wins at Texas Motor Speedway, Indianapolis and the weekend sweep at Iowa Speedway - nearly becoming the first driver ever to win every oval race on the schedule - to bring his career win total to 29. Newgarden enters the 2024 season  tied for 13th on the all-time NICS wins list with Team Penske legend and team advisor, Rick Mears. Newgarden's thrilling, last lap pass of 2022 Indianapolis 500 winner Marcus Ericsson in May gave Team Penske its record 19th win in the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing." On the strength of his four victories in 2023, Newgarden finished inside the top-five in the championship standings for the eighth consecutive season.
